Accomplish This One Goal To Reach Financial Freedom

Not many people know this about me but I’m the type of person who can get overwhelmed very easily.

People who know me well often compliment me on my ability to stay calm and rational even in the most stressful situations so when I tell them, yes, I too feel overwhelmed at times they think I’m being modest.

While I may be able to handle more stress and chaos than the average person, it’s the little things that can derail me if I’m not proactive in keeping them under control.

In other words, yes, I get the freak-outs too!

In fact, the things that I care about the most are the things that tend to create the most anxiety for me. My son, my family…my FINANCES.

One strategy that I use to cultivate a peaceful mind and reduce anxiety in my life is to break the big, scary things down into a single, small, manageable goal.

Financially, I’ve even managed to boil all my goals into ONE, small, manageable goal.

Having ONE overarching personal finance goal doesn’t mean that I don’t have lots of other mini goals because I do, and you can read about them HERE.

My ONE goal however, is a power goal.

It is my answer to the question posed by Gary Keller in his book, The ONE Thing:

“What’s the ONE Thing you can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”

My ONE goal is the only thing that I really need to do in order to move in the right direction.

Having only the ONE goal to worry about helps me keep my sanity when things get crazy.

My ONE goal is to spend less than I earn.

That is the one and only personal finance goal I will ever need to accomplish in order to reach my desired destination of financial freedom.

When I think about my entire personal finance journey in that context, all of the anxiety melts away because at the end of the day I know that I can accomplish that ONE thing if I take it one day paycheck at a time.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your personal finances feel free to use my power goal and see if it helps take some of the pressure off.

Or, maybe you have your own ONE thing. If so, I would love to hear about it in the comments.

If not, think about this, what is the ONE thing you can do to make everything else seem easier either with your personal finances or in life in general?
